A REQUEST FOR SUPPORT FOR MY ORGANIC POULTRY FARMING PROJECT
My name is Veronica Daniel Kavenyi from Msambweni South Coast Kenya. I have been practicing organic poultry farming in small scale whereby I have been keeping a few free range chicken .I have about 14 chicken at the moment in my small chicken house. In this model of organic chicken farming, there is no use of chemicals ,genetically modified feeds or antibiotics .Instead, the birds are kept in free range and they feed naturally by being allowed to access pasture and organic grains .The chicken are not given growth boosters and instead they grow naturally.
In the recent times, many people are opting to purchase and spend on products that are pure organic. Due to this shift, I have seen this opportunity to produce eggs using organic poultry farming. My biggest challenge to this moment has been the inability to access funds that will drive my project to another level. My idea is to construct a standard hen house and purchase 75 indigenous chicken that has the ability to give about 90 eggs in a day. With 90 eggs in a day, I will be making about 1,500ksh which translates to 45,000ksh per month and with time I will be making a good progress. 45,000ksh (sFr. 370.–) per month is a good amount of money here in msambweni. It will be able to sustain my live hood and the project all together .Organically produced eggs are very nutritious and they have a high market value compared to eggs produced by genetically modified hens. The demand for them is also high. Only a few people are practicing this method because they consider it to be tiring and taking long time to mature .My drive for this project is to produce healthy products and earn a profit from it. There is a large and available market for organically produced egg especially in schools, hotels and public offices.
My appeal to Pamoja Organization is to ask you to kindly support my project by helping me to construct a new standard hen house and assist me in purchasing new hens which I will add to the ones that I already have in my home. To start, the project will cost me 105,000ksh (sfr. 860.–) to do the construction and purchase the hens. I do book keeping and I will be able send to you statements about the whole project and everything that I will be doing concerning the project.I will be glad and happy to get support from you.
